About the Chamber President

Provo Chamber President - Steve DensleySteve Densley was born in the Salt Lake Valley at the Cottonwood Maternity Hospital. His early years were spent in Riverton, Blanding and Sandy Utah. He attended Jordan High School in Sandy where he excelled in sports having been named All American in Football and Basketball. His senior year he was class president and voted the Norvel J. Vincent Athlete of the Year. After being recruited by over 50 colleges around the nation he chose to attend Brigham Young University. Coach Lavell Edwards once referred to Steve as the most highly recruited player in BYU history at that time.

He left BYU to serve an LDS mission to the Eastern Atlantic States in Washington D.C. He returned to BYU where he met his wife, Colleen Taylor and they were married in 1968. Colleen is the Principal of Wasatch Elementary School in Provo and was named Utah’s Teacher of the year in 1992. They currently have 6 children and 9 grandchildren.

Steve graduated from BYU in 1970 and took a job in marketing with the Crown Zellerbach Corporation in Chicago Illinois. He made a decision to return to Utah and became the general manager of a Salt Lake Company called Western Placement Consultants. In 1974 he bought a Provo based corporation called Intermountain West and became its president. A short time later he changed the name to Kodiak Inc and moved to the freeway in Orem. He expanded the company to six Utah locations and sold it in 1983 when he became president of the Provo Chamber of Commerce and merged the Orem and Provo chambers into one large organization. Steve has served three times as President of the Utah State Chamber of Commerce and was asked to run for Lt. Governor of the State in 1992.

Steve continues to be active in politics and serves on over 27 boards. He has served as President of the Rotary Club, Vice President of United Way, National Parks Council Executive Board, Zion’s Bank Advisory Board, Sundance Film Festival Board, Chair of the Utah State Consumer Protection, Utah Medical Advisory Board, Utah Foundation, BYU Cougar Club Board, Jr. Achievement Board, Hugh O’Brien Youth Foundation Board, Provo Arts Council. Associate Vice President of the State Home Builders Association, and numerous others.

He has written news columns for over a decade for the Provo Daily Herald and was published in Chicken Soup for the Soul last year. He has had three radio shows. He graduated from the University of Colorado from the U. S. Chambers Institute of Organization Management and from Southern Methodist University from the Institute of Advanced Management.

Steve is the longest sitting chamber president in Utah with over 20 years of service with the Provo Orem Chamber and loves the Utah Valley area.
